Hi,

Could you please specify on what OS are you and what is your exact installation history of the DW/FW/Studio applications?

That will help us see what is wrong.

Hi Barry,

Try the following two solutions:
<ul>
<li> Remove and Add again Fireworks in Dreamweaver preferences menu - to do that follow these steps:
1. Go to Dreamweaver preferences menu - it is accessible from Edit-&gt; Preferences or through the shortcut: Ctrl+U
2. In the Preferences dialog window select File Types / Editors category
3. In Editors remove Fireworks through selecting Fireworks label and clicking at the minus button (the <b>"-"</b> button situated above the Editors)
4. Add again the Fireworks through clicking at the plus button (the <b> "+" </b> button situated above the Editors) and browsing the Fireworks

</li>
<li> If it doesn’t work again, you could try to start Create Web Photo Album:
Go to Dremweaver Create Web Photo Album menu - it is accessible from Commands-&gt; Create Web Photo Album
</li>
</ul>

I'm having a similar problem with Flash Album not seeing Fireworks.

I'm on Win XP Pro - Using Dreamweaver 8.02 and Fireworks 8.

I have this problem on both my desktop pc and my laptop.

I've tried the suggestions of removing Fireworks and then adding it back as the primary editor ect. Didn't work.

I've removed and reinstalled Dreamweaver and Fireworks - Didn't work.

I need this to work.

I've also gotten a good friend to purchase this for her position as the webmaster for a local county and she's having the same problem with WinXp PRO DW 8.02 and Fireworks 8. I'm not looking like a hero right now for suggestion your products to her.

I've bought close to all your extensions and have been happy with them... but this is an issue that absolutely needs to be fixed asap. However you're checking for the Fireworks install needs to be modified to allow either an override or to recognize Fireworks 8 specifically.

I can build dynamic Flash Albums but she can not - she's not a programmer and at this point she's gotten her boss to approve the purchase of something that can not be used. This is not a good situation.

Sincerely,
Les Crowley

Hi Les,

If you are sure that you have installed Fireworks one workaround is to remove the code for checking the present of the Fireworks. To do this try the following steps:

1. Open your Dreamweaver "Configuration" folder.
For Dreamweaver 8 usually it has the following path: "C:\Documents and Settings\&lt;YourUsername&gt;\Application Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 8\Configuration"

2. Then open the commands folder and find the "Flash Album Generator 2.js" file.

<b>NOTE:</b> <i>Changing the "Flash Album Generator 2.js" file could break you extension and lead to unexpected behavior. Therefore, before modifying it make a backup copy from where you can restore the original file if it is needed. </i>

3. Open for edit the file and go to the line number 74 and delete the following lines:
<pre id=code><font face=courier size=2 id=code>if (!FWLaunch.validateFireworks(3.0)) {
alert(MSG_CHECK_FW3);
return "";
}
</font id=code></pre id=code>

Then go to line number 243 and delete the following code:
<pre id=code><font face=courier size=2 id=code>
if (isExistingFolder(findObject('folder').value) && !FWLaunch.validateFireworks(3.0)) {
alertMsg = MSG_CHECK_FW3;
alert(alertMsg);
return true;
}
</font id=code></pre id=code>

4. Save the file and restart the Dreamweaver.

If you have any problems write to the forum or send me an email.

George,

I did what you've suggested and I'm still getting the error.

There''s appears to be one other place where it's checking the FW version.

if (FWLaunch.validateFireworks(3.0)) {
document.Layer1.visibility = "visible";
findObject('galleryName').focus();
findObject('galleryName').select();
} else {
document.Layer2.visibility = "visible";
}
}

This appears just below the first section you said to delete. Would that be what's still causing the problem for me?

Sorry Les I have missed this section. Indeed it check for Fireworks. Change it to the following code
<pre id=code><font face=courier size=2 id=code>
document.Layer1.visibility = "visible";
findObject('galleryName').focus();
findObject('galleryName').select();
</font id=code></pre id=code>

If you receive any error messages please post them to the forum exactly as they appear.

George,

That did the trick. Thanks for the help.

I still have to do this on my friends computer, but I don't predict there's going to be a problem there - she has basically the save set up to what I'm running.

Now if someone would come up with a tutorial on how to integrate a dynamic back end to Flash Gallery 2, I'd be a happy camper. I've got the Dynamic Gallery ASP extension (which works nicely), but that's not exactly the same thing &lt;g&gt; Until someone does, I'll play with doing it in my 10 seconds of free time a week - no wait... that's when I sleep <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Thanks again!

I cannot give any promises about such tutorial. But if you describe in more details what would you like to see in such tutorial we could consider the idea.

For now, this is the only available tutorial for Dynamic Flash Gallery:

George,

Just looking for a way, once a blank Flash Gallery is created, to handle all the parameters either by code or direct input from a recordset. Similar to the tutorial for Active Slideshow Pro.

I'm thinking that this should work the same as Active Slideshow Pro, but with additional parameters.

Your Dynamic Flash Gallery extension is great for a project where the only concern is making minimal changes to the gallery. For smaller projects it's a very simple and elegant solution. But for sites that are dealing with thousands of images and managing those images, it would be better to control the gallery via code and a database - This will allow for faster manipulation of the gallery and more advanced use of the Flash Gallery.

btw - if you're ever looking for beta testers, please let me know.

Thanks again for the help!

George,

Can you please explain how to go about creating an empty album as you mentioned? I don't have Fireworks but purchased the extension this week based on the statement that it is no longer required. However, when I try to use the extension it keeps insisting that I need Fireworks 3. I just want to create a blank album and then use the dynamic flash generator to populate it.

Thank you.

Fireworks are still required in order to use this extension. If you check the official page of Flash Album Generator 2 (dmxzone.com/ShowDetail.asp?NewsId=10647) you will see the following message:

<b>Note: You need to have Fireworks as well to use this extension</b>

Where did you read that Fireworks are not required?

As I mentioned in the other thread on the Dynamic Flash Gallery I was able to edit the .js file for the extension last night to get it working (it no longer asks for Fireworks). Thank you for your reply on the other board; I will try your suggestion and hopefully that will get things going. I appreciate it.
